Skipping Stones Shrine: Reach the Orb on the Island

Get a hero onto the shrine island by steering a moving lily pad into place. Start with a nudge; open the steps only if you need them.

Starts with two stones ready on the east bank. The route here from the area entrance is not included.

What this page covers

The shrine on the Skipping Stones island: the gold platform with the blue orb. Check that your view matches the picture below, then open only as much help as you need.

Is this your spot?

Gameplay screenshot of the prepared two-stone setup: two stones at the north end of the east bank, with the northern stone one tile farther west, opposite the shrine island.

You should see

  • The orb on the gold platform is still blue, and no dialogue has played yet.
  • You’re on the east bank with two stones; the northern one sits one tile further west.
  • An empty lily pad floats in the water west of you.
  • One lily pad already sits by the island, with a narrow strip of bank to its east.

NudgeA light hintNo moves, just where to lookShowHide

Count the lily pads you’d need to walk to the island. One is already in place. Where would the second one have to stop, and what could turn a pad that’s already moving?

MechanismHow the lily pads behaveThe rule this puzzle is built onShowHide

A stone pushed onto a lily pad rides it as the pad moves. A skipping stone that hits a pad head-on gives the pad a push and stops skipping. A stone that skips past right beside a moving pad nudges it to turn, and keeps going.

Watch where the carrying pad turns south. It needs to come down beside the fixed pad and meet the narrow bank. A turn one column farther west misses that connection.

StepsFrom the two-stone setup to the orbSpoilers · five moves with video stagesShowHide

Match the two-stone checklist above and the video’s 1:23:07 starting setup before following these moves.

  1. Send the southern stone west onto the empty lily pad.
You should seeThe pad starts moving west, carrying the stone.
  2. Go to the east side of the northern stone and send it west, so it skips past the north side of the moving pad.
You should seeThe carrying pad turns south toward the narrow bank. On PC, hold Ctrl (default key) to run while slowing time.
  3. Let the pad dock.
You should seeIt stops at the north end of the narrow bank, right next to the fixed lily pad. If it comes down in the same column as the fixed pad instead, see the check below.
  4. Walk round to the narrow bank, push the stone north off the pad, and step onto the pad.
You should seeThe stone leaves the pad to the north; the pad is free and you’re standing on it.
  5. Cross west over the fixed pad onto the island, then walk onto the orb.
You should seeDialogue and an effect play: the shrine is active. Moving the stone on the island isn’t required.

Choose a stage to compare your stones and lily pads with the same successful attempt. The times below are positions in the video, not waiting times between moves.

Do: Match the two stones on the east bank.

You should see: The northern stone sits one column west of the southern stone.

If it docks one column off

Docked correctlyThe two pads sit side by side and touch the narrow bank. You can walk across.
One column too far westThe carrying pad travels in the fixed pad’s column instead of beside the narrow bank. This diagram shows its path.

Undo the second launch and compare your position with the retry in the video: the northern stone is back on the bank, while the first stone is still on the moving pad. Adjust when you send the northern stone so the carrying pad turns into the bank’s column.
